Development of the script for the blind
The book on the origins of the Braille alphabet

A tactile book is on display, featuring relief drawings and Braille writing intended for both blind and sighted individuals. It tells the story of how the Braille alphabet was developed. You can flip through its pages and read about one of the greatest discoveries of the 19th century—Braille.

After many attempts to create a writing system for the blind, Louis Braille, who was blind himself, devised a writing and reading system in the 1830s that has since become the standard for the blind worldwide.

Braille is a tactile dot-based writing system for the blind. It consists of six dots arranged in two columns of three dots each. By combining these dots in different ways, a total of 63 characters can be formed, representing letters, mathematical symbols, musical notes, or punctuation marks.
