The Cow sculpture was made of patinated terracotta in Zagreb in 1972. The basic forms and relations of mass are depicted realistically and proportionally, and the making of specific details and a certain insecurity in modeling indicate the author’s early animalistic period, in which he had not yet gained the sculpting skill he later mastered. The surface of the sculpture is smoothed out with fingers, and the anatomical elements remain only indicated, but the work of art clearly embodies the character and strength of an animal.
