Zagreb, 1890, volume I

This exhibit is the front page of The Friend of the Blind, the first journal that dealt with typhlological issues, and it was first published in Zagreb in 1890. Its founder was Vinko Bek. In its original form it was published until the end of 1892, four times a year. The main point of the journal was to promote the education and other interests of the blind, as well as the idea of opening an institute that would care for the blind. In 1893 the journal extended its scope to the problems of the deaf-mute and changed its name to Friend of the Blind and the Deaf-mute.
